Mess, Chaos and Clutter
Some things I'm good at - but being clutter free and cleaning fridges definitely aren't my strengths.
I've tried many different approaches over the years to try to be more organised. However I've now embraced the fact that I will never have a vanilla scented fridge and gleaming bench tops despite many well meaning interventions from Mum, my babysitting Dad and Ding Dong.
According to my mother, being messy is in my DNA. When I was a teenager, Mum would despair over the trail of clothes, shoes and books that would explode out of bedroom. Once she even resorted to putting the kitty litter box in my bedroom because she grew weary of me not emptying it.
Through my twenties and thirties, my friends would give me scented candles each birthday and Christmas to deal with the sharp scent of kitty litter. Thankfully I have married a darling man who is handy with cleaning the litter tray, loves cats and a fresh Wettex!
Unfortunately my super organised fridge doesn't last long. The bonus of Denise recently sorting it out was discovering the enormous supply of Philly cream cheese that I kept buying at the supermarket. Miraculously it was still in date and I got an amazing Oreo cheesecake recipe that used up all the packets and tasted delish!
I understand some people's desire to having everything neat and tidy but it can be incredibly freeing to let go of the pressure to have everything perfectly positioned. Don't you reckon life is far too short to have an immaculate pantry/fridge like Gwyneth Paltrow?
And it's not just my house that can be chaotic. I could resort to living out of my car since it has basically everything you could ever need! Snacks, clean underwear, tweezers, clothes, boots, magazines, books, lunchboxes, water bottles, party lolly bags, stickers, tubs of mixed nuts, DVD's and boxes of tampons. Aren't I lucky to have Denise to sort it out for me every now and then! (check out her car cleaning skills below!) We all need to have at least one of these patient and organised friends. The ying to your yang!
